RV Living Verses Apartment Living

!±8± RV Living Verses Apartment Living

A couple of years ago my wife and I decided we were going to travel the US in a semi-retired state. We kicked out the kids (all over 21), sold our home and purchased an RV. Well live situations change and we didn't get on the road, at least not yet. We ended up staying in the area and taking full time jobs. But we decided at the time to stay in the RV as full-timers.

The purpose of the article is to offer some insight as to the possibilities of using RV's instead of apartments and the advantages of Rving. First a little background for those that are not familiar with the Recreational Vehicle (RV) terms. RVs are classified into several different categories.

Class A are the bus like vehicles you see traveling down the road. These are also called Motorhomes and for good reason. Class A's are the cream of the crop so to speak. They are the most expensive in terms of cost but have the most storage and amenities. I have seen some really nice Class A's and when it comes time for us to upgrade or trade in our current RV we will be looking at the Class A again. However, my tastes start in the 0,000 range, which is a little hard for me to justify.

Next are Class B, these are mini motorhomes. They are built on a light to medium truck chassis and can be identified by the truck cab appearance of the vehicle. In my opinion, these will not be suitable for full time use unless you really like small places. Some newer Class Bs are including what are called slides which are sections of the RV that 'slide out' from the body giving you more living space inside. Living space is what you will be looking for in the long run.

After the Class B comes Fifth Wheels. Fifth Wheels are trailers that are pulled by pickup trucks. So to get a fifth wheel you will also need a pickup truck of appropriate size. I would figure at least a ¾ ton pickup. Fifth wheels offer an advantage over Class A and Class B in that once you have the fifth wheel set up on a campsite, the truck is detached and can be used as a means of transportation. With Class A & B RV's you will need to either tow or bring another vehicle with you to get around. Fifth wheels approach the Class A RV in amenities and in some cases have more space. Dollar for dollar you will get more living space in a fifth wheel than a Class A.

However, you do need an expensive tow vehicle (truck) which has to be considered as part of the purchase. The fifth wheel is also part of a class considered as 'Towables'. The next 'towable' is the travel trailer (TT). These are similar to the fifth wheel except in the connections to the tow vehicle. With TT you connect to a hitch that sits near the bumper of the vehicle. Hence, just about any vehicle has the capabilities of towing a TT depending on size and weight of course. Class A, Fifth Wheels and Travel Trailers are the 3 main RV that you will find people living in on a fulltime basis. After the TT comes the camper class. These are light weight RV really not suitable for full time, however, I have met people that are full-timers in pop-ups, truck campers and even tents. The top of the line for the camper class is probably the truck campers.

These are units that slide into the bed of a pickup truck. In general, the max length is no more than 12 feet from front to back and maybe 10 feet side to side. They are very compact. These offer the ultimate in freedom, in that they are quick to setup and take down so that you can move quickly from place to place. However, just like the class A & B, your home is also your transportation, unless you bring another vehicle with you. The last group of towables is the popup or tent trailers. These have a study box frame and as the name implies pop up or lift up to raise the roof over the frame. This class of campers usually have soft sides made of cloth. I have used popups for years as an alternative to hotels while on assignments around the country. Even did some camping in the middle of winter with snow on the ground in a popup. Needless to say, a heater was required and it ran all day and all night. At night it wasn't able to keep up with the cold so the morning was a little fun getting out of bed. It was 20 degrees outside and about 50 inside.

That is a basic overview of the types of RV's available. As mentioned before, Class A, Fifth wheel and Travel Trailers are the units that most people will find suitable for full-time living.

Our experiences with living full-time in an RV.

We currently have a fifth wheel. Ours is from Jayco and is 38 feet long with 3 slides. One slide is in the bedroom, the other two slides are in the living room one on each side of the trailer. After almost 3 years in the RV as full-timers, we both love it. My wife likes to say it takes less than an hour to clean from front to back, floor to ceiling.

Let's start with the financial side of living in a RV. You have the cost of the RV. These are to be treated just like cars. If you buy new, you will take a beating on depreciation. However, like a home, the interest is tax deductible. So the best deal seems to be a unit that is a year or two old and financed. If you want to buy new, figure a discount of about 25-30% off from the list price. Our unit was a 2003 still on the lot in 2005 with the 2006 units being delivered. The sticker price was over ,000. We paid ,000 saving us about 38 percent. Now at the time we did not have a tow vehicle so the dealer delivered the fifth wheel to a near by campground.

Oak Grove in Hatfield, PA is a year round campground. This is important. You want to find a campground that offers year round operations. You don't want to have to move out in the wintertime. A lot of camp grounds close from November to March or early April. When we started there our rent was 5 a month and included water and electric. Our only other expense was propane for heating and hot water. Oak Grove supplied 2- 100 lb propane tanks and they automatically changed the tanks for us. This is really nice, kind of like automatic oil delivery when you own a house. During the warmer months we hardly use any propane, maybe a bottle every other month if that. However, wintertime we will use 3-4 bottles a month due to the heater. Currently propane runs about a bottle. So from the standpoint of renting an apartment to living in an RV expenses are normally cheaper. My daughter pays 0 a month for an apartment near us and we pay on average 5-450.

Other benefits of living in a RV - people! The people you find camping are the most wonderful folks you will ever come across. They are friendly, helpful, young at heart and just plain nice to be around. We have been avid campers since before we were married. I used to sneak down to DE where my wife (girlfriend at the time) and her family were camping and pitch a tent, then make myself part of the family. In the almost 40 years we have been together and camping we have never met anyone that was rude, a thief, or not willing to lend a hand if asked. In fact we have had more offers of help without asking than anytime we lived in a house or apartment.

It's funny, but when I traveled and stayed at hotels, you almost felt like a ghost or leopard or something. Heaven forbid if you said 'hi' to someone in the elevator or hallway. But when camping, everyone waves as you walk by, some will offer drinks or have you sit by the fire and chat for hours. Its like we are all family.

Speaking of fires, what is it about a campfire? To sit down at night around a nice campfire is so relaxing. Nothing needs to be said, just watch the flames and it seems all the stress just floats away. But campfires have another benefit, food. Nothing tastes better than food cooked over an open fire. Try doing that in an apartment.

Rving has another benefit, vacations. If you live in an apartment, you vacation consist of going to a destination, finding a hotel/motel, eating out every meal, and taking enough clothes with you for the length of the vacation. When you live in a RV, your home goes with you. 30-40 minutes to pack the RV, disconnect the utilities and hook up to the truck and you are on the road. When you get to your vacation destination, another 30-40 minutes and you are ready to enjoy the sites. Meals are not a problem, you have a complete kitchen already stocked just like at home, since it is home. On a special diet? No problem, you normal routine is uninterrupted. Clothes get dirty, a lot of RV come with washers and dryers, so you can do your laundry while relaxing in the evenings or before you get started for the day. Rving is usually cheaper too. When you compare the expenses you will find the RV trip is a lot cheaper than hotel/restaurant trip.

These are just a few of the things to consider when you look at living in an apartment verse living in a RV. I hope you have found the information useful.

sirHOAX alternation corpuscle aboriginal test

This is my attempt at a series sirHOAX cell. I have several ideas on modulation or switched DC what ever you call it. The gas-measuring device I built produces about 1.1 pounds of backpressure. So the open port flow has to be calculated. I am staying with my 12vdc@10 amp standard. The reason I picked these values was because most vehicles electrical system are designed to support the vehicle with only a small amount of overhead. Say 15 amp for any accessories you might add. I also envision these cells in service on smaller engines where the efficiencies will be more pronounced because of the smaller overall air/fuel intake. CID's.

The 2009 Report on Turbine Generator Parts and Accessories Sold Separately: World Market Segmentation by City

!±8± The 2009 Report on Turbine Generator Parts and Accessories Sold Separately: World Market Segmentation by City

Brand : | Rate : | Price : $795.00
Post Date : Dec 08, 2011 09:54:57 | Usually ships in 24 hours

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "turbine generator parts and accessories sold separately" for the year 2009. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales.

History of the Stove-top Espresso Maker

!±8± History of the Stove-top Espresso Maker

The story of the stove-top espresso maker begins in 1918, when Alfonso Bialetti returned to his native Italy from France, where he had worked in the aluminium industry, to start a small workshop manufacturing metal household goods.

The actual idea for the stove-top espresso maker came from a simple washing machine. During the 1920s Alfonso Bialetti observed the local women of Crusinallo washing their clothes in a sealed boiler with a small central pipe. This pipe would draw up the soapy water from the bottom of the boiler and redistribute it over the laundry. Alfonso Bialetti hit upon the idea that he could adapt this washing machine and scale it down to make a simple coffee maker that would allow Italians to enjoy real 'espresso type' coffee in their private homes.

Alfonso Bialetti began tinkering away, building various prototypes. His prototype stove-top espresso makers were manufactured out of aluminium. This was due to there being an embargo imposed by Mussolini's government on stainless steel. As Italy had a rich source of bauxite (aluminium ore), aluminium became the 'National Metal' of Italy.

It was not until 1933, after solving many technical problems, that Alfonso Bialetti invented the world's first stove-top espresso maker; the Moka Express. The distinctive design and octagonal shape of the Moka Express was based on a silver coffee service, popular at the time in wealthy Italian homes. Alfonso Bialetti claimed of his Moka Express that "without requiring any ability whatsoever" one could enjoy "in casa un espresso come al bar" - an espresso in the home just like in a bar (coffeehouse).

Alfonso Bialetti began selling his Moka Express at local, and later regional markets, managing to make and sell around 10,000 units per year. It was not until after WWII, when Alfonso's son Renato Bialetti joined the family business that sales of the Moka Express really took off. Renato Bialetti realised the potential of the Moka Express and launched a major national advertising campaign. This risk was greatly rewarded, with increased sales, production levels had to be raised to a rate of around 1,000 units per day. The Bialetti Moka Express soon became the market leader in Italy, suppassing sales of the traditional 'Neopolitan' percolator style coffeemaker, in which brewing occurs without pressure. Not only did the Moka Express produce 'espresso type' coffee, which Italians adored, it was also brewed coffee much quicker then its rivals.

Many companies saw the success the Moka Express was enjoying and copied the design to manufacture their own version of the stove-top espresso maker. This is why, in 1953 Renato Bialetti came up with the idea of adding a company mascot to every Moka Express to help promote the brand identity that is Bialetti. He used a caricature of his father Alfonso Bialetti to invent the 'Omino Con I Baffi' - little man with a moustache. This mascot proved popular as it created an image of an Italian father or fond elder relative who had lived their life in the coffeehouse.

The design of the Moka Express has hardly changed in over 70 years of manufacturing. Aluminium is still used to this day, as it is claimed that the residue of coffee from the previous brews, that taints the sides of a Moka pot, adds flavour and depth to future brews. This is why it is recommended that you do not clean your Moka Express too thoroughly.

Bialetti, now the world leader in the manufacture of domestic coffee makers, still strives to offer "in casa un espresso come al bar". With the improvement in espresso machines in coffeehouses, Bialetti has sought to develop new technologies, creating new stove-top espresso maker models. They now produce: stainless steel models, such as the Venus; an electric model, the Moka Easy; a new pressure system, the Brikka - which produces a 'crema' top on your coffee; and now a stove-top cappuccino maker, the Mukka Express.

Generator Diesel Fuel Day Tank - Application Guidelines and Important Considerations

!±8± Generator Diesel Fuel Day Tank - Application Guidelines and Important Considerations

Day tanks are fuel containment systems designed for installation in close-proximity to an engine to provide a reliable supply of diesel fuel. They are often mandatory when the engine-mounted fuel pump is unable to draw fuel from a remote-mounted fuel tank due to distance or elevation issues. For safety and reliability, these fuel systems are configured as suction-type, meaning that the day tank draws fuel from the main tank, and the engine draws fuel from the day tank.

There are key differences in the configuration of these systems when used with above-ground storage tanks (AST) or under-ground storage tanks (UST). There are also important considerations that relate to tank accessories.

Integration with AST - in this type of application, attention should be given to the elevation of the day tank in relation to the main AST. Because of the possibility for syphoning between the day tank and AST, certain components should be installed in the fuel piping. Typically, a solenoid valve and strainer are installed on the tank's pump inlet. This is an electrically-operated valve that will be normally closed. It will only open when the tank level is sensed to be low, at which point the solenoid valve is opened and the supply pump is energized. As the tank reaches a full level, the solenoid valve and pump are de-energized, which stops the flow of fuel and closes the fuel inlet to the tank. Additional components that are recommended on these systems are manually-operated ball valves and fusible link valves that automatically close in the event of a fire. These should be installed on the inlet and outlet of the tank to allow isolation of the equipment for emergency or regular scheduled maintenance purposes.

A well-designed system requires that the day tank be capable of returning any excess fuel back to the AST. Failure to stop a fill pump or close a solenoid valve could result in continuous filling of the tank. Without the means to return excess fuel, a spill will be inevitable. The overflow return pump is generally mounted on the tank and should be sized to be able to overcome the supply pump. Its outlet should be equipped with a check valve to prevent backfeeding when the return pump stops.

Some applications will have the AST in a remote location that is too far for the day tank pump to draw fuel reliably. In these cases, the day tank is equipped with an overflow pump, and a stand-alone supply pump is mounted near the main tank to draw fuel from the AST and push it to the day tank. The remote pump would still interface with the tank's level controller to receive start/stop signals.

Integration with UST - in this type of application, consideration should be given to the possibility that the day tank supply pump might lose its prime. For this reason, a foot valve is generally installed on the main tank, and a hand pump, check valve and solenoid valve are installed on the day tank. The hand pump allows for emergency filling and also provides the means to restore fuel prime on the line that feeds the motor-operated pump. The check valve and solenoid valve act to restrict any backflow to the main UST. In UST applications, overflow (return) fuel is generally piped from the day tank to the UST and gravity is enough to prevent overflowing of the day tank. As in AST designs, should the day tank be too far from the UST, the supply pump should be located by the UST.

General configuration recommendations - following are additional recommendations to consider for a properly configured system:

1. Insist not only in UL142-compliant day tanks but also in UL508-compliant controls.
2. Size the tank to allow for a minimum 2 hours of engine run-time without need to refill.
3. The supply pump should be sized to three-times the full-load fuel consumption of the engine (or engines if the tank feeds multiple engines). In the example above (120GPH or 2GPM consumption), the pump should be sized at minimum of 6GPM.
4. The return pump (if applicable) should be sized to exceed the capacity of the supply pump.
5. Size all accessories (such as ball valves, solenoid valves, etc.) no smaller than the fuel lines that connect to the accessories.
6. Specify double wall construction with rupture basin leak detection sensor. This sensor is interconnected to the supply pump to stop its operation in the event of a leak in the main containment. The controller should also indicate the condition with a visual alarm.
7. Always specify that the appropriate pressure relief vent caps be included with the tank. These allow for emergency venting should the normal atmospheric vent become obstructed. In interior installations, the working vent must be piped to the exterior.
8. Review local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) to understand whether controls and accessories should obtain power from engine batteries (i.e.: 24Vdc) or whether a 120Vac emergency accessory circuit would be acceptable.
9. Most diesel engines draw more fuel than is required for combustion. The excess fuel is typically returned to the day tank. Depending on rate of fuel return, you may need to consider routing it to the main tank, or you may need to design your system with a larger day tank or a fuel cooler to avoid heating of the fresh fuel supply. Heated fuel will diminish the engine's horsepower rating, and may lead to engine shutdown if the building loads exceed the power capability of the engine.
10. On a prime-duty application, increase system reliability by specifying a duplex fuel supply pump set with cast iron pump housings and steel rotors. Duplex pumps allow for lead/lag or simultaneous operation at the operator's discretion. The heavier duty cast-iron pump will last longer and produce less operating noise.
11. Insist on the following local and remote alarms from your vendor:
a) low level alarm and remote annunciation output contact.
b) high level alarm and remote annunciation output contact.
c) critical high level alarm, pump shutdown and remote annunciation output contact.
d) critical low level alarm, engine shutdown (prevents loss of fuel prime) and remote annunciation output contact.
e) tank leak detection alarm and remote annunciation output contact.

The guidelines above may help in the selection of the appropriate product for your application. However, we recommend that you contact your vendor to review any options or accessories that might be needed to insure reliable and safe operation of a specific fuel system application. For additional resources related to day tanks and related fuel systems, you may visit http://www.hurtado.cc/resources.htm.
